Today we learnt Medha Sukta. Recording of split line mantra for Surga Sukta will be sent by Guruji. Next class is on Dec 1 .
Guruji encourages everyone to ask questions . Today , Sneha Prasad asked Importance of Medha and Durga Sukta.
Answer : Mantras are all collected in one place and it is called Samhite.
Sukta means Important communications from those Samhite .
Here , Nature ( Prakruti ) is worshipped. As you all know, Vedas are very ancient came from Rishis with their meditative power. Unlike modern day religions , we do not chant mantras for specific God. Infact word "God" itself is foreign and it is not mentioned in Vedas. Veda Mantras are our PramaaNa ( Foundation ) on which human life is built to conduct ourselves in the best way possible in the outside world.
Jataveda means Agni. First word of first line mantra in Durga Sukta. Panchabhootas ( 5 Elements- Agni Vaayu ,Aapa, Akasha, Bhoomi ) are our source for worship. While chanting Durga Sukta, Agni is worshipped. In Medha sukta , we hear Saraswathi which means Saaraswatha loka ( meaning Vidhye is the reference as symbolically Saraswati is the image). Usually when Upanayana is conducted for boys, Medha Sukta is the first one taught to them. In Gurukula, Guruji used to chant 11 times Medha Suktas early in the morning to make sure the alertness to grasp other mantras that gets generated within us. Thats the power of chanting mantras. Thats why we have children whose mind is not so much cluttered like adults, will be able to grasp and chant with accurate grammer. Medhassu meaning our learning and grasping ability within us. That gets alerted when we chant Medha Suktas.
Mahabharata stories does not come in Vedas. It is very ancient than MahaBharata. Those are epics of Bharata. Krishna meaning black , Arjuna meaning white.
There are puranas which are built over a period of time, that is also not present in Vedas and it is different. Again , Vedas are the foundation and base of Sanatana ( Eternal ) Dharma. Thanks for the quesion Sneha Prasad.
