There is a Sairam temple in the walking distance to my work and we few of us go there on Thursdays.
I asked american colleague to Sairam temple for baba's darshana , arathi and prasada on one of the Thursday.

Eric : Who is in the statue ?
Me : We call him Sairam. The Idol is called murthy and we do a process called prana pratishta through veda mantras that are age old at least 10000 yrs old . Then we treat the murthy as living being until the process gets completed.

Eric : Oh , I see . What is that fire thing ? Wow , so many people out here .
Me : Yes, they are all devotees of Shirdi Sai Baba who is also believed to be avatara of Dattatreya who inturn revered as avatara of Brahma , Vishnu and Mahesh ( you might have heard these names over and over again with many Indians especially Vishnu and Mahesh )
The person who is in the murthy born in Muslim family but preached the importance of realization of the self and criticized love towards perishable things. His teachings concentrate on a moral code of love, forgiveness, helping others, charity, contentment, inner peace and devotion to the God and guru. He stressed the importance of surrender to the true Satguru and people try to follow as much as they can but they have to study what he always stood for and taught our previous generations in India.

Eric : What is it for ?
Me : Its there on my forehead to Inform myself time and again that my body is temporary and its a mortal one. They will burn my body when I go and mortal final remaining is the ash or vibhuti. If I put it and keep working on my spiritual sadhana hopefully I will become perfectionist like Sairam.
