Minutes of Veda mantra class ( July 9 , 2020 ) - Via WebEx

Thanks to Prasad Udupa for organizing the web ex for all of us.
Welcome Mohan Ashwathnarayana for joining the Veda mantra class with an attitude that "I do not know anything " . Guru Somayaji acknowledged this attitude saying when a person says "I do not know " it is good and he has immense possibilities to know something. In English there is a saying we can't fill the cup which is already full so empty glass is always better to fill water. Life is all about attitude.
Today, Purusha Sukta and Shree Sukta is recited by Guru and me ( in Mute mode ) . Overall 80% of the class agreed that they can chant Purusha sukta and Shree sukta by themselves referring the recordings .
We learnt Medha Sukta in a lead and follow technique. This is present in page 62.
Durga sapthashati - 5th Adyaya was recited by all in mute mode. We know that there is plenty of practice is required from our side to come up to speed.

Another student asked Guru to talk about the meaning of Purusha Sukta.
GuruVaani : Purusha Sukta is not chanted for any God per say. Many think that it is for VIshnu/Narayana?Krishna. But it is NOT. Another meaning of "Purusha" in sanskrit is "Viraat Purusha " ( basic level understanding /Elementary level understanding , this viraat purusha is good enough ). Guru can talk about this purusha in detail when students graduate their 10th grade as we are all in first grade when it comes to learning veda mantras are concerned. Glimpse of what you will be learning after 10 yrs is a deeper meaning of purusha as "Brahma vastu " in Vedanta.
Brahma Vastu means Parabrahma/Paramathma ( God is ONE supreme power but we have many manifestations is called Brahma in Vedanta which we refer in our daily conversations as Parabrahma or paramathma ).
Viraat Purusha is Avyakta Shakti( Unvisible energy like electric current for example) .
That Brahma vastu is responsible for everything in the creation.
Brahmanosya mukha maaseet - meaning people with sathva guna came from Viraat purusha's face(Brahma Jnanis for example like our Guru ).
Bahoo Raajanya Krutah ( Kshatriyas /people with Rajas GuNa born from viraat Purusha's shoulders hence we see kshatriyas /Rulers protect all of us ). Ooru tadasya yadvaishyaha meaning people with trading mentality came from viraat purusha's thigh region ). Padgyagam Shoodro Ajayata meaning people who are labour class/people with labour class mentality came from viraat purusha's feet . Chandrama manaso jaataha - meaning moon came from viraat purusha's heart/Manas in Sanskrit . Chaksho Suryo Ajaayata - From Virat purusha's Eye, Surya is born. Etc etc . Likewise , how the entire creation happened is explained in Purusha Sukta Yagnena Yagnamayanta devaaha .....
When we are learning Veda mantras imagination at stoola(physiological) is good enough .As you graduate to higher level we learn how to interpret the same thing on to ourselves ( which is psychological / extremely logical in nature which is very high and deep level Vedanta after 10 years of learning ).
Young age and teenage is correct to grasp certain things. Ex : Guru can train a Mexican 10 year old boy/girl an Yakshagana if he/she has little interest and willingness because children possess everything in principle and Guru's work is to fine tune them to learn.
Its very unfortunate that we say Veda mantras/ Bhagavadgeete everything is for old age. When people talk like this , It clearly shows the total ignorance of an Individual/unwillingness to learn the jnaana .
Jnaana is something by knowing which everything in this cosmos is known.
