Guru Vaani : In order to explore the knowledge of self, Rishis of ancient times came up with Veda mantras. The world "Veda " meaning "Vida jnaane" which in turn means Jnaana ( Knowledge ) . Every subject in modern day including today's math and science comes from Vedas as this is knowledge of self. It serves as user manual for human beings to understand true self in a crystal clear manner if we put at the least 10000 hrs into it. This is not confined to any particular VarNa of ancient times or any gender or anyone for that matter.
Just like how we operate any machine/product without studying user manual , we are accidentally using some features( not all the features ) with some common sense. Isn't it ? Same way we are operating ourselves today accidentally. Some things work some won't work in our favor as we do not know the process of deep breathing for relaxing and controlling our mind. We can get to the bottom of our being if we learn Veda mantras and Vedanta to lead in the dharmic way of life established by Jagadguru in 7th century. Talking about Jagadguru , We are celebrating 1232nd Birth Anniversary of Adi Shankaracharya on April 27th 2020 and Guru Somayaji has arranged Rudra chanting for our SDK - Tuesday class students on Jayanthi day. Those who do not know , our Guru Somayaji studied in Kalady, Kerala which happens to be the birth place of Jagadguru Adishankaracharya.
Adi Shankaracharya clearly showed the path to brahma jnaana through his bhaashyas to triprastanatrayas ( Bhagavadgeete, Upanishad and brahma Sutras ) including Karyakas and various stothras .
Guru Somayaji's Wednesday batch students also joining tomorrow to chant Veda mantras together on account of Shankara Jayanthi. This is not for aged people as opposed to popular belief. This is required right from the age of 8 in order to live with clear mind and peacefully within one self. This is my own experience as well.
Rigveda clearly says Ekam Sat Vipraha bahuda vadanti ( Rough translation :There is only one truth (or true being) and learned persons call it by many names - Adishankaracharya gave us panchayatana pooja ( AdithyaAmbika, Ganapathi, Vishnu , Shanmukha, Shiva) - We call different names ( various manifestations of the same divine) based on guNa and portfolio - In real essence its all one whomever we worship ). Veda mantras essence is laid out clearly in Upanishads( Comparatively easier than Veda mantras to chant Ex : Taittireya Upanishad ).
If people find that difficult they have an option to chant Bhagavadgeete ( Beautiful sanskrit poetry - We know many people participate in Geeta chanting and win prizes ) and understand the meaning where all 18 adhyayas are Yoga . Wisdom of Veda Mantras and Upanishads are there in Bhagavad Geete partly and Bhagwan(Krishna) himself guiding Arjuna ( ourselves) on a war field how to make use of the skills and expertise to survice in the outside world.
For someone who want stories to get the deeper philosophies, they can access Puranas ( in the form of Katha, essence is explained for our understandings easily especially children ). Bhaagavata Purana contains wisdom in katha form. Stories of Vishnu is compiled in Bhagavatha .
